In 2016, I worked at Lockheed Martin Space Systems as an intern at their Advanced Technology Center in Palo Alto. Specifically, I worked on the Control Systems and Information Sciences group helping to design and assemble a movng target system for position sensor testing.
I designed the mechanical target system using modular parts and revising a pre-existing design. I also did the software and hardware architecture, coding the PI controller with National Instruments systems. I also helped to design some machined sensor brackets for the team with turnaround times of less than a day.
Lockheed was also the first place that I learned I couldn't drill holes on my own at big companies, and where I learned to play foosball. When I asked when I'd know what technology my target system was being used on, my manager's manager replied, "when it's in the Smithsonian."
